What is Peninsula Education and Training (PVET)? |
|
PVET is a cluster of 19
secondary school on the Frankston and Mornington
Peninsula. The cluster exists to maximise outcomes
for secondary students in relation to
vocational pathways. Many of the VET programs
are conducted at Chisholm Institute of TAFE, while
others are hosted by a particular school with
students traveling there from surrounding schools.
Students complete VET programs as part of either VCE
or VCAL. |

Why the program
was established |
|
The Frankston
Mornington Peninsula area provides a growing
range of industry programs for young people.
Training providers are keen to offer their
programs in response to the employment
growth in these industries. Secondary
Colleges have a large number of students
with an interest in gaining industry
specific skills. Industry is able to
play a key role in training young people who
will be their future employees. |
| |
|
How the program
works |
|
Students
complete their VCE or VCAL plus industry
recognised training at the same time.
Industry partners can provide on the job
training for VET modules/competencies.
Structured work placement is organised in
block releases determined by the secondary
schools. Log books provide records of
assessment and structured workplace learning
activities. Credits are available into
apprenticeships, traineeships and TAFE
course. |

Structured
Workplace Learning (SWL) |
|
As part of most
VET programs students are required or
recommended to undertake practical on the
job experience relevant to the area studied.
This is referred to as Structured Workplace
Learning. It is much more than Work
Experience as undertaken commonly in Year
10. SWL allows students to
specifically develop competencies which are
an integral part of their vocational
training. Publications relating to SWL
have been produced by the Local Community
Partnership in conjunction with PVET for
both students and employers |
