FMPLLEN in partnership with The Brotherhood of St
Laurence and Skills Plus Ltd has received funding
from the Commonwealth Department of Education
Science and Training (now called the Department of
Education, Employment and Workplace Relations) to implement a Local Community
Partnership, covering Mornington Peninsula and
Frankston City. The role of the Local
Community Partnerships is to introduce the following
three programs to all schools and training and
community organisations across the Frankston and
Mornington Peninsula Region.
The Structured Workplace Learning program (SWL)
will focus on increasing access to and participation
of students in structured work place learning as
part of the Vocational Education and Training in
Schools program. The key aim is to enhance
young people’s employability skills by assisting
schools, Registered Training Organisations and other
training providers to organise high quality
structured work placements with local employers.
The Careers and Transitions Support Program (CTS)
aims to assist young people to develop Individual
Transitions Plans and help them to understand study
and work options available to them. It will
assist them to find professional career advice and
to explore vocational education and training
pathways and opportunities. The PLCP will also
seek to work with parents, career professionals and
employers to enhance their understanding of various
career and work options.
The Adopt a School Program (ASP) will bring
schools and industry together so that students are
better prepared for the world of work and so that
they understand employers expectations of them.
Employers will also gain a better understanding of
how schools work and how to recruit and retain young
people in the workplace. The ASP is focused
around specific projects linking a specific industry
or industry area to one or more schools.
